Orange Grove is “fueling” the Greek startup scene with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation

We are proud to announce that the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, as part of their ‘Recharging the Youth’ initiative, which aims to create opportunities for Greece’s younger generations, is supporting Orange Grove with a grant.

The grant will enable Orange Grove to advance to the next level and offer even more assistance to the startups that are incubated on the ground floor of the Netherlands Embassy building. Specifically, the grant will be focused on further strengthening Orange Grove’s educational program as well as establishing a series of “Pitching Competitions”, which will allow startups to gain access to pre-seed funding. The grant will also support renovation works as well as the construction of additional work spaces inside the Orange Grove premises.

The Pitching Competitions are held 4 times per year, where an acclaimed jury judges 8 of the most promising Orange Grove startups and awards two money prizes of 15.000 euro and 10.000 euro. The competition offers exposure to a broad audience and valuable feedback from the jury, consisting of successful businessmen, investors, and entrepreneurs, whose extensive knowledge and network can prove extremely helpful to them. The Orange Grove Pitching Competition gives a substantial impetus to youth entrepreneurship by offering startups access to preliminary funding and the opportunity to grow their business to the next level.

Acknowledging that one of the most important elements of a new venture’s success is the access to knowledge and information, Orange Grove, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, has focused its efforts on creating an online educational platform and welcoming international speakers and an in-house Business Development Expert to the incubator. Through exclusive one-on-one sessions and frequent workshops and seminars, the visiting experts’ valuable knowledge and experience is shared with the entrepreneurs.

Starting from spring, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Orange Grove will expand its office space to the first floor of the Netherlands Embassy building at Vassileos Konstantinou 5 – 7. These additional offices will enable us to host, next to the early stage startups at the ground floor space, also a number of more advanced startups. Graduates of Orange Grove who would like to use a more private work setting can apply for one of the closed office rooms where they can expand their business while collaborating with and sharing their know-how with new startups.

The above-mentioned projects, consisting of Quarterly Pitching Competitions, an in-house Business Development Expert, visiting international speakers, an e-learning platform and newly renovated offices will be implemented during 2015. The first Quarterly Pitching Competition called “The Squeeze”, took place on the 13th of December. A jury consisting of Peter Economides, Jeremy Downward, George Maroulis and Alexis Pantazis awarded Orange Grove startup JoinCargo with the first prize (15.000 euro) and TheCityGame with the second prize (10.000 euro). The second Quarterly Pitching Competition took place on March 26th 2015. The winners were Gigalize who won the 1st Prize of 15.000 euro and Clio Muse who won the 2nd prize of 10.000 euro.
